Pets for Seniors is an organization that matches cats and dogs from shelters and foster pet groups with senior citizens who might need a little help with the responsibilities of pet ownership. We are a 501(c)3 organization registered with the IL State Attorney General's Office.
If you are over the age of 60 and would consider adopting a dog or cat that is from a shelter, foster pet organization, breed rescue or our own shelter and would consider a "hard-to-adopt" animal, we will: * Pay for a portion of the adoption fee (up to $ 75.00) * Offer a substantial discount on our own animals for adoption * Pay for any remaining needed vaccinations * Pay for a heartworm test or a feline leuk/FIV test if this has not been done by the shelter * Give you starter supplies (as donated supplies allow) * Offer free transportation for yearly vet visits if you live in the Peoria area * Take care of the pet for free should you ever have to spend time in a hospital * You will receive our newsletter four times a year * We will take your pet back and if possible, find it another home if you can no longer care for it
A "HARD-TO-ADOPT" animal is considered a small dog over age 6, a large dog over 3 years, an adult cat over age 3, an animal with physical handicaps such as having only 3 legs, an animal that has not been adopted during it's time at an animal control and is facing euthanasia, or an animal that has lived at a shelter for more than one year. We do not help with the adoptions of puppies or kittens. We reserve the right to refuse help with any adoptions that we don't approve of or feel are not compatible.
Our membership is made up of adopting members, as well as supporting members who pay a yearly membership fee to receive our newsletter.
We work with all existing shelters and organizations. We also have a shelter where we foster cats and dogs that we have rescued from euthanasia at animal control facilities. We do not accept owner relinquished animals other than from our adopting members who can no longer care for their pet.
