Ask any shelter what the hardest to adopt dog is and they're likely to groan and say " a big black dog". Add to that a big, black dog that's over 100 lbs, 8 or 9 yrs old and has allergies. |

Ben was taken to the TAPS Shelter by the neice of a lady who died. Other relatives wanted to euthanize him as an answer to his sudden homelessness. TAPS took him in and the staff became very fond of him during the 10 months he was there. It was feared that he would be there forever. Roy R. of Havana, IL saw his picture in a Pets for Seniors news-letter. Within days Ben had a new home! He now goes for at least one walk a day to the river to watch the ducks. He also likes to wade in the water and search for sticks. What better retirement home is there for a senior Lab? |

Meet Marilyn and April
Marilyn A. of Washington lost her husband of over 50 years in 1996. Last fall she had to have her 14 year old Poodle put to sleep. She said that she never felt so alone. One week after Barb told her that female poodles rarely show us at shelters, McLean County Animal Control called Barb to ask if she had anyone that would consider a 9 year old female toy poodle. April and Marilyn began their life together on the same day that April had been scheduled to be euthanized. |

Meet Kay and Gene and Dreamer
Dreamer had run out of time when McLean Cty Animal Control called T.A.P.S. shelter in Pekin, IL. They took her and luckily she was adopted by Kay and Gene. They recently wrote: "We'll never be able to thank you enough for putting us together with her, she's been such a joy to us, we never thought we'd be so blessed.."

Meet Jim and Flopper
Jim describes Flopper as a very spoiled cat! In fact, Flopper is so friendly that he has his own fan club at the retirement complex where he and Jim live! He is the unofficial spokescat for Pets for Seniors and has even been quoted in the local newspaper.

Meet Robert and Sweetie
When Robert's German Shepherd died he was all set to get a puppy. His vet suggested he call PFS and luckily he did! After meeting Sweetie, an almost 7 year old mix that was at the T.A.P.S. shelter in Pekin, IL, he knew he had found a good dog! They adopted each other and I'm told she likes watching Sunday football from his bed! |
