Our foster program allows us to rescue animals from animal control facilities that we think would be great for our program. While in our care they are fully vetted and evaluated so that we know more about them. Those that are not adopted by one of our senior citizens, or those that may not be ideal for the program (such as too active) are adopted into other loving homes. Sponsorship donations allow us to afford to rescue these great animals! To sponsor a foster pet during it's stay with PFS, specify with your donation of $25.00 or more which animal you wish to sponsor. If you would prefer to sponsor an adoption of an animal to a senior citizen (which helps to pay the adoption or release fee), please refer to the "How you can help" page. Please mail donation to PFS, P.O. Box 64, Edwards, IL 61528  Also check www.petsforseniors.petfinder.com to see more of our animals!

"As the Hairball Rolls"!
In 2009 there was an accident involving a van in northern IL. The passengers in the van were killed. The wrecked vehicle was towed to another city. About a week later two small dogs were found inside. They were taken to the local animal control facility. The members of the humane society were moved by their sad story and paid for vet work to be done in the hope it would help the dogs, believed to each be around 10 years old, to get adopted. The black and tan male Min Pin which they had named Wilbur tested positive for heartworms. They arranged for his initial treatment. Sadly, there was no interest in either dog and the animal control began thinking that they would have to be euthanized. The humane society contacted rescues, but no one had room or available foster homes so close to Christmas. Pets for Seniors took both dogs. After discovering over time that they weren't bonded to each other, Charlotte was adopted.Wilbur is a chubby Min Pin. He will be available after 02/14/10. He does need to lose weight! He has completed his heartworm treatment and will go back around 2/15 for his final test. He is neutered, UTD on vaccinations and appears housebroken. He is good with other dogs and also cats.

Flops-A-Lot is an affectionate long hair black and white cat who is around 5 years old. He has the cutest face! He has had a recent dental, has good litterbox habits and gets along with dogs and other cats.
Alex is a big grey tiger who is front declawed. He's a very affectionate boy about 6 years old. Alex is good with other cats and dogs and loves people!
Annie is a 7-8 year old black Pomeranian. She is one of our all-time favorite dogs! Right now she looks like a bowling ball and needs to lose weight - but normally she is a 7-8 lb dog. Annie is housebroken and crate trained. She is friendly to everyone and wants nothing more than to be held. Annie is blind, but gets around well. She needs a person who is not unsteady on their feet as she tends to hover around your feet and may be a trip risk. She is a sweetheart and also quiet - not at all barky.
Mandy is a 12 lb black and tan terrier mix. She is 2 years old. She's initially shy of strangers but soon warms up to be a very loving lap dog! She is good with other dogs, cats and older children. Mandy was born here at the shelter and adopted as a puppy, but recently returned. She needs work on housebreaking, although she is doing great here! She can climb over a 4 ft chain link fence - so she'll need a home that can leash walk her or who has a taller fence.
